Identify Your Callers

CALLER ID

See who is calling before you answer the phone. Then decide whether or not you want to answer the call. 

Caller ID - Number
The incoming caller's telephone number (if available) along with the date and time are displayed on a Caller ID display.

Caller ID - Name and Number
The incoming caller's name and telephone number (if available) along with the date and time are displayed on a Caller ID display. 

  • A display unit attached to your phone shows the caller's number (or name and number) after the first complete ring.
  • The number (or name and number), date and time of calls are automatically stored in the display unit.
  • Caller ID will not identify calls from pay phones, some cellular phones, areas without advanced switching capabilities, or if the calling party blocks their number.
  • Caller ID service requires a compatible display device that can be purchased at various retail stores, or a telephone that contains this feature.

CALL TRACING

Trace threatening or harassing calls from within your defined calling area and, if you wish, prosecute the caller.

  • To trace a harassing call, press *57. 
  • To take legal action, record the exact date and time of the call and contact Iowa Telecom within 10 days.
  • Contact your local law enforcement officials.

CALL WAITING ID

See the name and number of a second incoming call before you answer it to decide whether or not you want to interrupt your first call. 

  • When you hear the Call Waiting tone, check your Call Waiting ID display to see who is calling.
  • If you want to take the call, press and release the hookswitch or "flash" button.
  • This will put the first caller on hold while you answer the second call.
  • Call Waiting ID service requires a Call Waiting ID compatible display device that can be purchased at various retail stores, or a telephone that contains this feature. This equipment is different from a standard Caller ID device. 

DISTINCTIVE RING

Add a second phone number without having the extra phone line. 

The second number has a distinctive ring (short, short ring), so you'll know who the call is for before answering the phone. Great for teen, fax or business lines. 


SPECIAL CALL ACCEPTANCE

Receive only the calls you want.

  • To only receive calls from specific numbers, press *64.
  • Follow the voice prompts to enter up to 12 numbers from which you would like to accept calls.
  • For all other calls, a recorded message will say you are not accepting calls at this time.

VIP ALERT

Give up to 12 specific numbers a special ring. When you hear the distinctive ring, you'll know it's someone on your VIP screening list.    

  • Press *61.
  • Follow the voice prompts.
